When Lucy Ackman, 26, was left on the brink of death by a hemorrhage, her billionaire father told doctors: save her life and I’ll tell the world how
The billionaire investor Bill Ackman is donating $400 million to brain research after his daughter suffered a near-fatal brain hemorrhage.
Ackman, the founder and chief executive of Pershing Square Capital Management, described on X how his daughter Lucy, 26, was found unconscious in her apartment in Brooklyn in February and underwent emergency surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, 19 hours after the hemorrhage occurred.
He said he was told that surgery was not usually performed to save a patient with a large brain bleed if more than five hours had passed since the hemorrhage.
The institute will focus on neurosurgery, neuroscience, rehabilitation and nutrition along with the development of medical devices. It will involve human trials, hyperbaric oxygen treatment and longevity research.
