Florida-based Adipose Stem Cell Treatment group Stedmedix has today announced it will be combining stem cell therapy with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to treat patients suffering from degenerative conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, sports injuries and stroke.
Without sufficient levels of oxygen reaching the tissue, healing isn’t able to take place. Immersion in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber increases the rates of oxygen in the body so that it is dissolved into the body at a rapid rate. This results in vital stimulation that will help parts of the body currently not receiving enough oxygen to increase rates of consumption as it dissolves into bones, plasma, and bodily fluids.
According to Director of Operations Fred Palmer, this combination of treatments is the future of adult stem cell therapy when helping to heal patients with degenerative disorders. “We are very proud to be working with the most recent and advanced technologies in the industry today,” he said via a press release. “This combination of hyperbaric oxygen and stem cell therapies is progressively becoming the recommended treatment from our physicians and the selected treatment of our patients. Studies coupled with our own results we have seen thus far have been very impressive and supportive to our decision to offer this adjoining treatment.”
What is HBOT?
Normal air contains 21 per cent oxygen at sea level, while patients immersed in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber will consume 100 per cent oxygen.
When consumed normally above ground, this level of oxygen provides only the red blood cells with stimulation. However, high levels of oxygen consumed in the chamber dissolve into all the body’s fluids, including plasma and central nervous system fluids. Once consumed, this oxygen stimulates the levels of DNA present in each cell, helping to accelerate the healing process substantially.
As HBOT is an FDA-regulated process, the treatment has to take place in a controlled environment to ensure patients are safe as they experience a change in atmospheric pressure and heightened levels of oxygen.
Why combine HBOT and stem cell research?
Research has shown that HBOT heightens the synthesis of nitric oxide, which in turn results in the release of stem cells.
It was first discovered that HBOT increases stem cell activity in 2005, when a study revealed that after 20 combination treatments, stem cell concentration increased eightfold. This research has since been supported by a more recent study, conducted by Neural Regeneration Research, showing that patients who underwent HBOT in conjunction with stem cell research scored better than patients who only underwent one treatment.
Going forward, the combination of treatments could be used to help patients suffering from long-terms degenerative diseases, as well as subjects who have neurological issues such as migraines or traumatic brain injuries.
