In Memoriam: Dr. Carol Henricks

October, 2025
Tucson, Arizona

Christian. Pioneer. Iconoclast. Educator. Neurologist. Generous. Anchor. Affirming. Grounded. Patient. Philanthropist. Gentle. Present. Angel of mercy. Healer. Entrepreneur. Hyperbaric Neurophysiologist. Visionary. Her abilities and friends were many, as were her accolades.

Dr. Carol Henricks, a premier neurorehabilitation and Hyperbaric Oxygenation specialist, passed away on October 1, 2025 in a way that makes her friends smile. She flew in to Anchorage to address the Alaska Emergency Suicide Prevention Summit, sponsored by Alaska Rising, helping to nurture Veterans and other brain-wounded back to health. Typical Carol, giving until the end.

Her presentation “Brain Health is Mental Health” was explained in a BLOG last year, “Your Brain Has Been Disconnected.” She was a crusader for healing brain wounds caused by trauma and toxicity. She wrote: “Healing the brain pathophysiologically is critical for functional recovery to take place. Initial brain health assessment should include a brain MRI – DTI – NQ without contrast, a RightEyeQ screening of visual function and a cognitive screening test. We recommend:

1. Nutritional consult and supplement recommendation.

2. Toxicity screen and detoxification protocol.

3. Endocrine function screening and HRT protocol.

4. HBOT with an initial 40 sessions @ 1.5 ata with 100% oxygen.

5. Begin neurofeedback sessions after 20 – 40 HBOT sessions.

6. Reassess and consider additional therapies.”

She was indomitable in pursuing novel applications of HBOT and alternative therapies to tackle Traumatic Brain Injuries, PTSD, COVID, Burn Pit toxicity, Havana Syndrome, and a host of neurological disorders that plague millions left untreated by traditional medicine. Rigorous blood and endocrine assessments were essential tools for her successes.

She was a scientist, intent on establishing with data the safety and reliability of her protocols for healing brain wounds. She integrated Diffusion Tensor Imaging along with objective and subjective measures of progress. She did not shy away from the terms “wholistic” and functional medicine. Like many cautious physicians who lamented over-drugging of Veterans, she integrated diet, life changes, group therapy, and other non-invasive therapies in her practices at NorthStar Neurology P.C. and NorthStar Hyperbaric in Tucson.

Her magic, her superpower, was her connection with her patients, her ability to listen. Pragmatism and patience guided her throughout her medical career. She exemplified “the quiet professional,” a concept that originated with Army Green Berets. She exceled in her work through skill, dedication, and humility, without seeking personal recognition. Hundreds of her patients attested to her competence, hard work, and discreet execution of tasks.

Following her MD degree, internship, and residency at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia PA, she displayed her breadth and versatility with studies in math, engineering, behavioral neurology and memory disorders, clinical neurophysiology, epilepsy, and sleep disorders. Hyperbaric oxygenation suited her natural disposition for non-invasive healing of all body systems.

Her lifelong partner and friend Michael Maxwell assisted her throughout her career, whether opening the clinic, finding the money to expand free services, or starting a non-profit where she was Medical Director. Healing Arizona Veterans is a non–profit organization which educates, informs, raises money for and provides treatment for TBI injured military veterans, first responders, and other government civilian and citizens suffering from brain wounds.

Dr. Carol Henricks lives on in her patients who continue her pro bono, Christ-centered work, living a life explained in Matthew 25:40: “Do for the least of these.” For Carol, we all must show compassion and care for those who are marginalized, needy, or vulnerable. She was dedicated to Veterans while showing love and dignity to all people.

The TreatNOW Mission is ending service member suicides. Along the way, we have learned that we can end suicidal ideation, help end symptoms of PTSD, get patients off most of their drugs, and heal brain wounds to end the effects of Concussion, BLAST injury, mild TBI, Persistent Post Concussive Syndrome, and polytrauma from AHI, Burn Pits, and COVID. No Veteran or civilian has ever been killed while undergoing HBOT treatment for TBI/PTSD. For a video Summary, see: https://www.youtube.com/@treatnowdotorg/videos
