So What’s the Buzz about a Concussion Treatment Breakthrough?

PRIORITY INTERRUPT

The Concussion Treatment Breakthrough is about to be revealed in a peer-reviewed journal due out this month. In the piece, validated with an EEG-based brain biomarker, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is shown with objective evidence to quickly relieve and eliminate symptoms of acute Concussion and restore brain functions typically degraded for weeks.

Within two to eight one-hour sessions in an HBOT protocol (mean number 3) young athletes with acute concussion (within 10 days of injury) did what no Concussion Protocol on the planet is capable of doing: they healed their brain wounds with hyperbaric medicine, enabling their scores on a whole range of markers to improve dramatically, along with behavioral, functional, emotional, and sleep improvements. Full information on the science will be forthcoming soon.

Accompanying that news is a new video by Dr Joe Maroon, MD, neurosurgeon and Team Physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers for several decades. In it, he summarizes the latest science and HBOT Mechanisms of Action that heal brain wounds: angiogenesis, neurogenesis, synaptogenesis, neuroplasticity, mitochondrial biogenesis, stem cell growth, anti-inflammation, and whole body healing.

Coupled with the new research, these validated Mechanisms of Action for wound healing continue the drum-beat of evidence that HBOT should be used immediately for Concussion/TBI/PTSD/Post Concussive Syndrome, put on-label, insured, and made universally available.

To prove the virtue of the long-term education we have been conducting with Veterans for over 16 years, we have just received results of a Survey conducted by Mission Roll Call. The chart below shows a growing demand for HBOT within the Veteran Community. Over 49% of those surveyed want access to HBOT.

Seldom do VA facilities even mention HBOT for TBI/PTSD, choosing their unproven interventions without even mention of a scientifically validated healing process with over 31,000 successes, including over 12,500 Veterans and 700+ SpecOps Warriors. Politics continue to thwart science in DoD and the VA. Recall that overwhelming scientific evidence in 27 published, peer-reviewed journals attest to the safety and efficacy of HBOT for TBI/PTSD. And that 12 states have now passed legislation calling for, and in seven cases funding, over $32 Million for treatments.

Veterans deserve access to HBOT through Community Care. VA Secretary Collins has been shown many times the ethics, economics, and life-saving realities of Veterans receiving HBOT treament outside his system. Recall the US Government has spent over $5.375 Billion in the last decade on Suicide Prevention without employing HBOT, a proven method to end suicide ideation. The continuing suicide epidemic has now claimed over 135,000 Veterans who could not get needed help from their government.

Alongside the news on a Concussion breakthrough, we have been tracking Veteran deaths through overdoses, now over 110,000 unnecessary deaths. While costs for prescription drug spending by the VA are not publicly available, we know that even as RX for opioids have been reduced 67% since 2012, overall spending for drugs has dramatically increased. The total VA budget request for FY 2025 was $369.3 billion, reflecting a $32.9 billion (9.8%) increase over the 2024 estimate. $17.1 billion was designated for overall mental health services, encompassing suicide prevention efforts. An additional $583 million was specifically earmarked for suicide prevention outreach programs. Outreach. Not healing brain wounds to eliminate suicidal ideation. Administrative fixes, not medical intervention to heal brain wounds. In the name of suffering Veterans, someone needs to remind SEC Collins about his department’s advertised #1 clinical priority: preventing suicide among all Veterans

This overdose epidemic in the military is not new, nor unknown. Between 2010 and 2019, drug overdose mortality rates among veterans increased by 53%, with opioids involved in over 93% of these deaths. From 2012 to 2018, stimulant-involved overdose deaths among veterans tripled. Many of these deaths also involved opioids, highlighting the dangers of polysubstance use.

Research suggests that for every one fatality due to overdose, there are approximately 15 nonfatal overdoses, many resulting in hypoxic or anoxic brain injuries. These injuries are often invisible and remain undiagnosed, yet they can significantly affect a person’s memory, focus, emotional regulation, and mobility. “Those who survive an overdose often carry forward lasting and invisible brain injuries, frequently undiagnosed, unsupported, and misunderstood. . . . Brain injury caused by oxygen deprivation.”

In the US, there are recorded 1.2 Million overdose deaths in the last 25 years, Veterans included. That could mean as many as 18,495,330 nonfatal overdoses who may be brain damaged, even though saved from death. Even using only 20% of that number means 4.6 Million brain wounded casualties go without brain-wound treatment. And experience demonstrates that they have not been told about hyperbaric therapy and the potential to get them their lives back. Something as simple as oxygen under pressure. TreatNOW.

The TreatNOW Mission is ending service member suicides. Along the way, we have learned that we can end suicidal ideation, help end symptoms of PTSD, get patients off most of their drugs, and heal brain wounds to end the effects of Concussion, BLAST injury, mild TBI Persistent Post Concussive Syndrome, and polytrauma from AHI and Burn Pits. No Veteran or civilian has ever been killed while undergoing HBOT treatment for TBI/PTSD. For a video Summary, see: https://www.youtube.com/@treatnowdotorg/videos
